Our Adult Day Health Program is open during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, in a safe, supportive, cheerful environment. Nutritional meals approved by USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program. The meals include Breakfast, Lunch and afternoon snack, which can accommodate special diets and preparation.

Purpose:

  • To provide older adults and adults with disabilities an opportunity to get out of the house and receive mental, physical and social stimulation.
  • To give caregivers a much-needed break in which to attend to personal needs, work or simply rest and relax.

Candidates for PALS Adult Day Health Center:

  • Can benefit from the friendship and functional assistance a day care center offers.
  • May be physically or cognitively challenged but do not require 24-hour supervision.
  • Are in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Has suffered a traumatic brain injury.
  • Needs or require medical intervention/supervision.

Basically Adult Day Care Program operates daily activities based on the following categories:

Health Model: Programs/Activities organized along the medical model lines are often called adult day health care to distinguish them from the social programs. Adult day health programs offer health services such as nursing care, glucose testing, blood pressure monitoring, insulin injection, medication management, and contact with primary physicians, weights, TB testing and care planning. Nursing care offers the health model to clients with a variety of chronic medical conditions including:

  • Adults with early and later stages of Alzheimer’s disease, other dementias and or depression.
  • Participants recovering from stroke, head or spinal cord injuries.
  • Participants with chronic disease such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
  • Adults with developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome and hearing impairment.
  • Adults suffering from mental illnesses.
  • Frail older adults requiring nursing care and assistance with daily living activities.

Social Model: Program places emphasizes on supervised group activities such as crafts, gardening, music and exercise. Participants in this model may require some assistance with the activities of daily living (e.g. eating), but they generally do not require skilled nursing care. Similar to the Health Model, these social programs generally provide social activities as well as recreation and some health related services. Treating the whole person from a nutritional perspective we provide breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks. We encourage participants to participate in the support groups offered at our center, information and referral services and community outreach programs.
